“I get bored easily, so I’m always looking for something different.” With this statement, taken from a Rolling Stone profile ahead of the release of her debut album, ‘ALPHA,’ Shenseea sums up the curious personality that partially accounts for her appeal. The Jamaica-born singer emerged on the dancehall scene with 2016’s “Jiggle Jiggle,” a hard-hitting club anthem with dirty lyrics galore. And while Shenseea has held true to her dancehall roots, the contempt for tedium mentioned above has seen her address many genres in her career's early years. That’s what makes ‘ALPHA’ such an accomplishment; hip-hop, dancehall, pop, and R&B take turns shining on its 14 tracks, with features from 21 Savage, Meg Thee Stallion, and Offset bolstering the action. We’re loving the way her “Can’t Anymore” and “Sun Comes Up” Ctrl performances came out. “Shenseea has shown us so much versatility,” wrote one commenter. “Alpha album is fire as well.” Couldn’t have said it better.
