On August 29th, the Ukraine military launched a counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast in the South of Ukraine. Reportedly, Ukraine had broken through Russia’s first line of defence near Kherson on Monday. The offensive is being touted as a prelude to a major operation in the south of the country. Experts are describing the operation as “shaping” operations—military parlance for preliminary attacks intended to soften up enemy defences prior to an offensive.
