Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann pleads guilty, admits Gilgo Beach murders

Rex Heuermann, the man charged in the Gilgo Beach serial killer case, pleaded guilty in court and admitted to killing eight women, bringing a dramatic development to one of Long Island’s most notorious murder investigations. The Massapequa Park resident pleaded guilty to seven murder charges and acknowledged the killing of Karen Vergata, whose remains were discovered years apart on Fire Island and near Ocean Parkway. The Gilgo Beach murders haunted Long Island and the tri‑state area for more than a decade. Prosecutors say Heuermann now faces multiple consecutive life sentences without parole, along with an additional sentence of 100 years to life for other murders tied to the case. Heuermann was first arrested in July 2023, nearly 13 years after remains were discovered along Ocean Parkway.
