MOVIE SYNOPSIS: In the dystopian future of 2022, the prison system has been privatized. Captain J.T. Robbins (Ray Liotta), a disgraced Marine imprisoned for killing a commanding officer, is deemed too dangerous for a normal cell. He is dumped on "Absolom"—a secret island penal colony where the worst criminals are left to rot.
There are no guards on the island. Instead, the prisoners have split into two warring tribes: the savage "Outsiders" led by the sociopathic Marek (Stuart Wilson), and the peaceful "Insiders" led by the Father (Lance Henriksen). Caught in the middle of a brutal war, Robbins has only one goal: find a way off an island that everyone says is inescapable.
WHY WATCH? This is a hidden gem of 90s action. It features Ray Liotta in one of his only pure action roles, proving he could have been a massive blockbuster hero. The supporting cast is stacked with legends like Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Kevin Dillon. Plus, with Martin Campbell directing, the action scenes are tight, practical, and explosive.
