Jeffrey Cutlip was a serial killer who may have escaped justice, but he turned himself in...

  • In July 2012, 63-year-old Jeffrey Cutlip called 911 in Brownsville, Texas, and confessed to multiple murders, saying he was afraid people would find out. He admitted to killing Marlene Carlson in 1975 and Julie Bennett in 1977, both in Portland, Oregon. Police had already considered him a person of interest in both cases, but lacked physical evidence. Cutlip had a long criminal history, including rape, assault, and parole violations, and had served multiple prison terms. After his 2012 confession, he also admitted to the 1993 murder of Nielene Doll, whose body was found in rural Portland. He claimed to have killed a fourth woman, but authorities have not confirmed this. In 2013, Cutlip pleaded guilty to the three known murders and was sentenced to life in prison in 2014. He is currently serving his sentence at Snake River Correctional Facility in Oregon.
