Rojuu accepts that growing up is weird. It’s through his music, which he deems "shadow pop," that the Spanish teen grapples in real time with youth's emotional pressures. Quietly prolific, he’s dropped over a half-dozen full-length projects in the past few years. One album reflected his “early teenage years,” the next closed that chapter. The new ‘Kor Kor Lake’ analyzes the “reality check” of adulting - it's not easy. So a bit of gloom marks Rojuu’s goth-fantasy sounds, and his fashion and album artwork mirror that vibe. Millions of streams and a widening fanbase are causes for celebration, however. Last year’s delicately pulsing “Umi” was a hit in Madrid’s alt circles, and its video presented the singer and his pals bopping around a train station. Half the tracks on ‘Kor Kor Lake’ have surpassed Spotify's million-stream mark. The tracks he performed for DSCVR encapsulate the album's two approaches. “100XRE A TU LADO STARE” builds on disorienting hyperpop, while “MemenTo Azul” swims in laidback synth pop. Weird is good, and Rojuu’s good at weird.
