Ashnikko has been one of our fave left-of-center artists for a while now. A little more than a year ago, we inducted the trash-talking pixie to our DSCVR ranks. What we wrote in the descriptions for last year's “Deal With It” and “Daisy” performances still holds true today: “Anyone who needs a primer on the 24-year-old should just think of her blue hair as a metaphor for her sound - totally wild and reliably ambitious.” The spikes are gone, yes, but the hair is still deep sapphire; most importantly, her edge is sharp as ever. We welcomed her to our new London studio to perform “Panic Attacks in Paradise” and its b-side, “Maggots.” The former is one of the tamest songs she’s ever released, revealing the breadth of her skills. The latter track is signature Ashnikko: abrasive, expletive-laden rap-rock. Choose your mood.
